Golden Bulls falls in season opener, 20-19

CHARLOTTE - Davion Nelson rushed for a team-high 102 yards and Antonio Wallace passed for 111 yards with two touchdowns. However, Allen came away in the final seconds and won by a final score of 20-19 on Saturday evening.


JCSU jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as Wallace found Reggie Bryant for a 16 yard touchdown pass to put the Golden Bulls up 7-0.


Allen would score on the opening possession of the third quarter and take advantage on the turnover against the Golden Bulls to lead 14-7 early in the fourth quarter.


JCSU capitalized off the turnovers on Allen as Wallace found Bryant again for a 49-yd touchdown strike, however Pavel Buenaventura's PAT was blocked cutting the Yellow Jackets lead 14-13, with 12:08 remaining.


The Gold and Blue gained some breathing room as Tywann Jackson picked off Wright and returned it for 53-yard the touchdown giving the Golden Bulls a 19-14 lead.


The Yellow Jackets scored on their final drive as Beau Harrington scampered in the end zone for seven yards, however Allen's 2-point conversion failed.


As a team, JCSU produced 233 yards of total offense, including 111 through the air and 122 on the ground. The Yellow Jackets tallied 306 yards of total offense, in addition to 193 passing yards and 113 rushing yards.
 
Wallace finished with 11-for-22 in pass completions for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Tyreik Leach rushed for 20 yards on six carries, while Reggie Bryant had two receptions for 65 yards and two touchdowns.


Defensively, Marvin Strong and Brandon led the Golden Bulls with seven tackles each and Jackson contributed five tackles and return an interception for a 53 yard touchdown.


JCSU stays at home for the second straight week as the Golden Bulls welcome Bluefield State, to Charlotte, on Saturday, September 18. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m.
