CHARLOTTE -Waderick Hemingway rushed for 106 yards, to give the Golden Bulls their second consecutive 100-yard game, however it wasn't enough as Bluefield State defeated Johnson C. Smith 20-12, inside Irwin Belk Complex on Saturday night.
Bluefield (2-1) grabbed a 6-0 lead late in the first quarter, scoring, ona 45 yard touchdown pass. In the second quarter, it didn't take Big Blue long to score again, this time on a 97 yard strike, to go up 13-0 on the Golden Bulls.
Just before halftime,
Davion Nelson, of JCSU (0-2)scampered in for three yards to cut Bluefield State's lead 13-6.
Both team scored in the third quarter as Bluefield State added seven on the scoreboard, leading 20-6.
In the final seconds of the third quarter for the Golden Bulls, Hemingway burst through the middle on a 13 yard touchdown run, to cut BSC lead 20-12.
Antonio Wallace completed seven of 17 passes for 57 yards and one touchdowns, with one interception, and rushed four times for six yards. Nelson, a strong, sure-handed inside runner, carried a career-high 21 times for 98 yards.
The Golden Bulls out gained Big Blue 201-65 on the ground and gained an average of 4.1 yards a carry.
Jaleel Johnson had a game high of eight tackles for the Golden Bulls.
