CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University took on the No. 1 team in the nation University of North Carolina but fell by the hands of the Tar Heels by a margin of 101-40 on Friday evening inside the Dean Dome.
The Golden Bulls tied the game with the Tar Heels when Cartier Jernigan tied the game at three all with 17:20 in the first half.
Cedric Patterson led the Golden Bulls in scoring with 11 points off of 5-for-9 shooting from the floor, including 0-for-1 from the three-point line and 1-for-1 from the foul line. Jernigan added seven points while Javon Floyd and Ezekiel Cannedy chipped in six points off the bench for JCSU.
Three players recorded a team-best of three rebounds. The Golden Bulls were out rebounded by the Tar Heels 56-22. The Golden Bulls shot 23.1 percent (15-for-65) from the floor and 71.4 percent (5-for-7) from the charity stripe.
JCSU will return to action on Nov. 12-13 as the Golden Bulls participate in the Conference Challenge hosted by UNC Pembroke. The Golden Bulls will face Catawba College and Newberry College.
