The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announces its 2022 Football All-Conference teams and superlatives as voted on by the CIAA Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association.
Johnson C. Smith University football players, Brevin Caldwell was named first team All-CIAA as well as Rookie Team along with teammates Jalen Alexander and Jacob Newman both named to the Rookie Team.
Caldwell, appeared in all nine games, posting his best act in the beginning of the season. His notable performance came against Chowan where Caldwell recorded six catches for 143-yards capped by an 86-yard reception TD. On the season Caldwell caught 47 passes for 650 yards, he averaged 13.8 yards per catch.
Alexander, registered 18 tackles to go along with four tackles for losses (12-yards), 1.0 sacks (30-yards), and a pair of breakups this season.
Neman played eight games. Newman rushed for 477 yards averaging 5.7 per game on 83 carries. Newman scored seven touchdowns on the season. His longest was 71 yards. Newman also caught four passes for 30 yards.
This year's teams are led by Offensive Player of the Year Jada Byers of Virginia Union University, Defensive Player of the Year Joshua Pryor from Bowie State University, Special Teams Player of the Year Brady Myers of Virginia Union University, and Offensive Lineman of the Year Matthew Foster of Virginia State University.
Chowan, Fayetteville State, and Virginia Union each had a league-high nine All-CIAA selections followed by Bowie State and the Bulldogs' eight all-conference selections. Virginia Union also had the most all-rookie selections with five, followed by Johnson C. Smith and Chowan with three selections each.
