CHARLOTTE – Ezekiel Cannedy scored 34 points to lead Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball to a 74-62 victory against Newberry College on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bulls improve to 1-1 on the season while the Wolves drop to 0-2 overall.
Javon Floyd who netted 18 points, while Todd Johnson dropped nine points on the night.
On Friday, the team battled Catawba College to open up their 2022-23 season, but the Golden Bulls were unable to begin the season with a victory as JCSU ran out of gas, falling 87-70.
Cannedy lead JCSU with a game high of 17 points, while grabbing five boards. Christopher Ealy chipped in 11 points and six rebounds on the night.
The Golden Bulls (0-1) shot 43-percent (25-58) from the floor, connecting just 3-of-14 from the three-point line while hitting 17-of-29 from the foul line on the night.
JCSU will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 15 when they take on Xavier University of Louisiana in the Chris Paul HBCU Tip-Off Classic in Uncasville, Conn. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
