CHARLOTTE - The Johnson C Smith University men's basketball team cut a 12-point deficit in the second half but their comeback fell short in the 69-60 loss to Winston-Salem State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest on Wednesday evening in the C.E. Gaines Center.
The loss dips the Golden Bulls (5-17, 2-12 CIAA,) to 2-7 in the division standings while the Rams (18-5, 12-3 CIAA) improve to 8-1 in the South.
JCSU finished the game shooting 43.8-percent (22-52) from the field and 6-of-21 from long distance (28.3-percent). The Golden Bulls were led by
Augustine Ominu who finished with 14 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field.
Chaz Gwyn recorded 13 points and eight rebounds while
Stephen Sherrill and
Evan Carter chipped in 12 and 10 points. Ominu also grabbed eight rebounds.
The Golden Bulls will face Claflin University in its regular season finale on Saturday, Feb 19, in Orangeburg S.C. Tip- off is set for 4:00 p.m.
