JCSU FOOTBALL TO OPEN 2022 SEASON AT BLUEFIELD ST.

CHARLOTTE - On Thursday, Sept. 1, the Johnson C. Smith University football team will begin its 2022 season at Bluefield, West Virginia taking on the Blues of Bluefield State. Kickoff is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Mitchell Stadium.

The contest marks the 2nd meeting between the two programs, the last meeting occurred in 2021 with Bluefield State winning 20-12.

The Golden Bulls are coming off a frustrating 1-7 overall record and 1-5 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in 2022. However, under new leadership of head coach Maurice Flowers, The Golden Bulls will be looking to improve its chances of closing out games and hopefulness of securing a spot to the championship game for the first time since 1969.

JCSU heads into the 2022 campaign, picked ninth overall and fourth in the Southern Division during the CIAA Preseason Poll. The Golden Bulls return 45 letter winners from a season ago, including Reggie Bryant. Bryant was named to the All-CIAA Preseason Team and the 2022 Black College Football Player of the Year Award Watch List.

Bluefield State wrapped up its 2021 season with a 4-3 overall record.
