JCSU Plays at Shaw

CHARLOTTE – Johnson C Smith University men's and women's basketball teams will begin the full swing of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division action with a road doubleheader on Wednesday, Jan. 4 in Raleigh, N.C., inside Spaulding Gymnasium. The women's game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at approximately 8:00 p.m.

After suffering an 72-67 decision to Francis Marion on Monday, Jan. 2, the Golden Bulls (4-7, 0-2 CIAA) will look to regroup and snap a four-game skid against a tough Shaw women's basketball team which held Virginia-Lynchburg to just 16.7 percent from 3-point range in a 3-for-18 shooting performance on the way to an 82-35 win at historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium Monday.

The Lady Bears (6-7) had four players score in double figures.

The Golden Bulls offense is led by Shaniya Jones who averages 22.5 points and 3.7 rebounds - she leads the CIAA in scoring this season. Le'Zarea Bowens adds 11.7 points and 7.7 rebounds while India Howard post 9.6 points and 11.5 boards, respectively.

The Gold and Blue men's team (4-7, 0-2 CIAA) will look to maintain their winning morale at Shaw on Wednesday night. The Golden Bulls have three players charting double digits in scoring led by Ezekiel Cannedy who registers 15.0 points (4th in CIAA).

Javon Floyd has come alive, as he now averages 13.6 points (9th in CIAA), and grabs 6.5 rebounds per game which ranks him eighth in the league. Cartier Jernigan rounds out the scoring with 11.0 points per game.

Wednesday's doubleheader is the first of four doubleheaders to come down the stretch for JCSU.
