Kirven double-double not enough as JCSU falls in OT to VUU, 68-64

RICHMOND – Ashlei Kirven scored a career-high 21 points and 19 rebounds, but the Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team fell to Virginia Union University, 68-64 in overtime on Saturday afternoon, inside Barco-Stevens Hall.

The Golden Bulls (3-6) trailed by on (36-35) at halftime and to start the second half, JCSU outscored VUU 13-9 in the third quarter. The Golden Bulls managed to claw their way back to force overtime, but the Panthers held on for the win in the final seconds.

Kirven netted a career-high 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Ciara Harris added 12 points and finished with 10  rebounds.

For the contest, JCSU shot just 31 percent from the floor and hit 4-of-13 from behind the arc. At the charity stripe, the Golden Bulls shot 69 percent shooting (16-of-23).
