CHARLOTTE - Johnson C. Smith University will begin the 2023 season Saturday afternoon at West Virginia Wesleyan College when the Golden Bulls visits Cebe Ross Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Second year Head Coach Maurice Flowers' Golden Bulls will be looking to improve off of last year's 2-7 mark.
Saturday's game marks the first time these two teams will meet.
The WVWC Bobcats are coming off a 1-10 overall record and 1-9 mark in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) in 2022. The Bobcats were also 0-5 at home and ended last year's season on a three-game losing skid.

Brevin Caldwell was officially announced as one of the names on the official watch list of the 2023 Black College Football Player of the Year Watchlist, the Black College Football Hall of Fame announced in July. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding football player from a Historically Black College & University.
 
The game will be one of two non-conference games for the Golden Bulls this season. Next week, Flowers' team host Walsh (Ohio) in a 1 p.m. kickoff before playing eight consecutive CIAA games to close out the regular season.
