Football gets first win of the season, 49-6 over WVWC

Buckhannon, WVa. – The Johnson C. Smith University (1-0) football team earned a 49-6 win over West Virginia Wesleyan College (0-1) on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  
West Va. Wesleyan made a 22-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead in the first quarter.
Johnson C. Smith scored in its first possession on a Tyrell Jackson 25-yard pass to Tyrek Williams for a 7-3 lead.
Tim Newman, Jr. raced into the end zone from eight yards out for a 14-3 lead headed into the second quarter.
Jackson tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Bryant to make the score 21-3 with 5:16 left in the second quarter.
The Bobcats made a 46-yard field goal with :12 left to trim JCSU's lead to 21-6 at halftime.
Dante Baker caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Jackson with 10:21 in the third quarter and the Brevin Caldwell grabbed a 12-yard pass to extend the Golden Bulls lead 42-6
Shyden McCullough rushed in for 15 yards for the final score of the night to give the Golden Bulls a 49-6 win.
OFFENSIVE NOTABLES
Jackson completed 19-of-28 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown.
Jacob Newman had 86 yards on 16 carries to lead the rushing attack, his brother Tim had 73 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown.
Reggie Bryant finished with nine catches for 102 yards.
The Golden Bulls finished 479 total yards, 262 passing, and 217 on the ground.
DEFENSIVE NOTABLES
The defense was stingy, limiting the Bobcats to 180 total yards with 39 rushing and 141 passing.
Benari Black posted seven tackles with one sack, and one tackle for loss.
