Golden Bulls Fall in Straight-Sets to Shaw

CHARLOTTE – The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team fell in straights to the Shaw University Bears, Monday evening inside Brayboy Gymnasium. The Golden Bulls dropped 25-15 in the first set, 25-14 in the second and 25-14 in the third frame.

The Golden Bulls dips to 1-3 on the year and 0-3 in the CIAA while SU improves to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Statistically, JCSU had a tough day offensively recorded a hitting percentage of .027 with just 14 kills on 74 total attacks while the Bears registered 42 kills on 88 attacks and a .352 hitting percentage. JCSU held advantages blocks (4-2).

Essence Rain-Peterson posted a team-high nine kills while Monique Reid collected 10 digs.

The Golden Bulls will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Winston-Salem for a non-conference match up with Carolina University on Tuesday, Oct. 1. First serve is slated for 6:30 p.m.
