JCSU WBB Falls to Va. Union, 59-58

CHARLOTTE - Taylor Turner scored 15 points off the bench but the Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team dropped a 59-58 decision to the Panthers of Virginia Union University inside Brayboy Gymnasium on Thursday afternoon.
The loss dips the Golden Bulls to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in CIAA, while the Panthers Improves to 8-3, and a perfect 3-0 in league play.

The Golden Bulls led 25-10 in the first quarter, however scoring four points in the second quarter and went scoreless over four minutes.

The Panther went on a 20-4 run to take a 30-28 at halftime.

Desiree Smith and Starasia Bell-Freeman each scored 10 points to round out the double figure scores.

Smith grabbed 10 rebounds on the night.

For the contest, the Golden Bulls shot 42 percent from the floor (20-47), 35 percent from the three-point line (6-17) and nailed 12-of-21 from the foul line for 57 percent. 

Virginia Union's leading scorers Taniyah Green scored 18 points and Maia Charles scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Golden Bulls will take a break for Christmas before returning to the hardwood Jan. 4
