HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Golden Bulls dominated on both offense and defense as Johnson C. Smith University defeated Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opponent the Tigers of Morehouse College, 37-13. Darius Ocean, connected with Brevin Caldwell for an eight-yard touchdown pass, capping off an impressive 11-play, 80-yard drive. The Golden Bulls took an early lead, 7-0.
Within 15 seconds of play, the Tigers quickly responded as Patrick Blake launched a 75-yarder to Ajani Williams, who sprinted into the end zone, tying the game at 7-7 with the lone play.
Another scoring drive in the second quarter, Ocean and Caldwell struck again. This time, for a 27-yard pass to put JCSU ahead 14-7 after a four play, 45-yard drive.
In the third quarter Shamar Baker intercepted a pass and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown, extending JCSU's lead to 20-7. Ocean and Caldwell connected for yet another 27-yard touchdown pass, making it 27-7.
In the final quarter, Kamarro Edmonds rumbled in for a two-yard touchdown run, capping a six-play, 85-yard drive and pushing the score to 34-7.
The Tigers fought back with Miles Scott finding Ajani Williams for a 43-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to 34-13.
Jacob Meneses sealed the victory with a 32-yard field goal, to give the Gold and Blue the 37-13, victory.
JCSU will open at home to face the Lions of Lincoln (Pa.) on September 14.
