Central Washington Upsets UT Permian Basin on the Road
Â
WACO, TEX.– Central Washington took control of the Lone Star Conference after a hard-fought win at then-No. 6 UT Permian Basin. Down 14-10 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Wildcats scored 17 unanswered points, including a pick six with 18 seconds left to clinch the victory, 27-14. Central Washington jumps three spots to No. 10 in this week's AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, presented by Hudl, while the Falcons drop seven to No. 13.Â
The top five remained the same this week with Ferris State still on top, followed by Harding, West Florida, Kutztown, and Western Colorado. That might not be the case next week as No. 3 West Florida travels to No. 8 West Alabama in the only top 25 matchup in week 8. The Argonauts will look to end a two-game losing streak to West Alabama. Â
Because of a three-way tie for No. 24 last week, two teams fell out of the poll while only one team entered. That team is No. 24 Benedict, who is 6-0 overall and sits atop the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 5-0 record. The Tigers are making their first appearance in the AFCA Top 25 since the final poll of 2023. Â
