Johnson C. Smith Falls to Fayetteville State in Straight Sets


Fayetteville, N.C. – Johnson C. Smith University dropped a three-set decision to Fayetteville State on Monday evening at Felton J. Capel Arena. The Golden Bulls fell by scores of 18-25, 10-25, and 15-25, moving to 2-9 overall and 0-7 in CIAA play, while the Broncos improved to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference.

Fayetteville State held the offensive edge throughout the match, finishing with a .138 hitting percentage compared to Johnson C. Smith's -.055. The Broncos recorded 29 kills and 10 blocks, while the Golden Bulls managed 18 kills and no blocks.

Dacia Lowery led JCSU with seven kills, followed by Kailyn Hitch and Malayshia Bradley with three each. Yasmine Cannon guided the offense with 11 assists, and Maci Murrell anchored the defense with 10 digs.

For Fayetteville State, Symone Morris paced the attack with eight kills, while Chiara Vittoni added six. Setter Giovanna Teixeira tallied 13 assists and two aces, and Jasmine Culp led all players with 15 digs. At the net, Chantiya Johnson dominated defensively with seven blocks.

Johnson C. Smith will look to regroup as they continue CIAA play later this week.
