JCSU MBB Holds of Elizabeth City St. 82-72

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball, defeated Elizabeth City State 82–72 inside the R.L. Vaughan Center. The Golden Bulls improved to 3–3 overall, using efficient shooting and clutch free-throw accuracy to pull away late.

After taking a 38–31 lead into halftime, JCSU continued its strong offensive rhythm in the second half, shooting nearly 58% from the field and 91% at the free-throw line. The Golden Bulls withstood multiple Elizabeth City State runs before closing the game with poise at the stripe and disciplined execution in the half court.

Senior guard Trey Pettigrew delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 20 points, including an impressive 14-of-17 showing at the free-throw line. He added 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block in 37 minutes.

Jamauri Bryant was dominant on both ends, finishing with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, while shooting 7-of-10 from the field.

Jared Davis added 10 points, and Anthony Williams contributed 9 points and 4 assists while knocking down a key three-pointer in the first half.

JCSU received 20 bench points, highlighted by Jeremee Bryant, who scored 11 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting, including three made threes. Jessiah Pierre Johnson added 5 points, and the bench delivered valuable energy and scoring throughout the game.

The Golden Bulls shot an impressive 52.3% from the field, 62.5% from three, and 79.5% from the free-throw line—numbers that proved decisive in a game that featured six lead changes.

Defensively, JCSU forced 13 turnovers and turned them into 14 points. The Golden Bulls held ECSU to just 3 fast-break points, controlling tempo for most of the afternoon.

Despite 42 bench points from the Vikings, JCSU limited their top scorers in key moments and kept ECSU from closing the gap in the final minutes.
