NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Johnson C. Smith University men's track and field team turned in several notable performances at the meet, highlighted by NCAA Division II marks in the hurdles, top 10 finishes on the track and multiple scoring efforts in the field events at the HBCU Showcase in New York.
Junior
Jahvel Granville led the Golden Bulls in the 60-meter hurdles finals, placing fifth overall with a time of 8.08 seconds, an NCAA Division II qualifying mark. Teammate
Amontae Wray followed closely behind, finishing sixth in 8.15 after advancing from the preliminaries earlier in the day.
On the track, junior
Caleb Baxter posted one of the team's top finishes, placing ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.91 seconds. Baxter also added a 12
th place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 22.16. Wray finished 25th in the 200 meters in 22.46, while also placing 15th in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.00 seconds.
In the field events, freshman
Lacy Joyner delivered a standout performance in the long jump, finishing fifth overall with a mark of 6.77 meters (22-2.5). Fellow freshman
Divine Gee added a sixth place finish in the triple jump, recording a top mark of 14.23 meters (46-8.25), while senior
Jordae Wilson placed seventh at 14.21 meters.
In the throwing events,
Anthony Chatman scored for the Golden Bulls in both, placing seventh in the shot put (13.40m) and seventh in the weight throw (13.85m).
Jeremiah Brown also competed in both events, finishing ninth in the shot put and weight throw.
