CHARLOTTE - Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball secured a 60–51 CIAA victory over Elizabeth City State University on Jan. 8 at Brayboy Gymnasium, improving to 6–5 overall and 3–1 in conference play. The Golden Bulls set the tone early with an 18–10 first quarter.

La'Niya Simes and Salote Franklin led JCSU with 14 points apiece, with Franklin adding eight rebounds. The Golden Bulls capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 22-of-29 attempts, while forcing 26 ECSU turnovers.

The Vikings (3–10, 0–4 CIAA) were paced by LaNiya Scales' 13 points and Kailyn Young's 10, but could not overcome the early deficit despite shooting 48.8 percent from the field.

The Golden Bulls will host the Trojans of Virginia State on Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is schedule for 2:00 p.m.
