Box Score BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — The Johnson C. Smith University football team scored in every quarter and posted a shutout Saturday, defeating Bluefield State University 51-0 in a CIAA matchup at Mitchell Stadium.
The Golden Bulls (4-1, 3-0 CIAA) scored in each of the first three quarters and held Bluefield State scoreless throughout the afternoon. JCSU's offense produced seven touchdowns, including five rushing scores and two touchdown passes.
Fabian Duncan led the early offensive attack, scoring three rushing touchdowns in the first half.
Duncan opened the scoring with a five yard touchdown run. The score capped an eight play, 62-yard drive and gave JCSU a 7-0 lead.
Duncan found the end zone again scoring on a two yard run to put the Golden Bulls ahead 14-0.
Johnson C. Smith added to its advantage in the second quarter when quarterback Damien Mazil connected with Brian Lane for a 34 yard touchdown. Alexis Rosario-Beltran's extra point extended the lead to 21-0.
Duncan completed his three touchdown performance with an explosive 21 yard touchdown run. Rosario-Beltran's extra-point attempt went wide left, leaving JCSU with a 27-0 advantage.
The Golden Bulls continued to control the game after halftime.
Kamarro Edmonds scored on a 10 yard touchdown run finishing a five-play, 71 yard drive. Christopher Mejia converted the extra point to make it 33-0.
Mazil added his second touchdown pass of the game later in the quarter, connecting with Reginald Brigman for an 18 yard touchdown. Johnson C. Smith added two scores in the fourth quarter.
Jayvyn Earley capped a seven play, 76 yard drive with a five yard run, with Mejia's extra point pushed the lead to 47-0.
Mejia then connected on a 33 yard field goal with 3:05 remaining in the game, completing an eight play, 38 yard drive and giving the Golden Bulls a 51-0 advantage.
The JCSU defense kept Bluefield State off the scoreboard throughout the game, completing the shutout.
The Golden Bulls' defense was led by Vincent Hill, who recorded six tackles. Jamaris Stevens and Rossie Grimes each finished with four tackles, while Marque Vereen added three.
