WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team snapped a 10-match losing streak Sunday afternoon, sweeping Lincoln (Pa.) 25-18, 25-22, 25-18 in the CIAA Roundups hosted by Winston-Salem State University.
The victory marked the Golden Bulls' first win of the 2026 season and their first CIAA victory, moving JCSU to 1-10 overall and 1-8 in conference play. Lincoln dropped to 1-15 overall and 0-8 in the CIAA.
JCSU established control early, taking the opening set 25-18 before holding off Lincoln in the second set, 25-22. The Golden Bulls closed out the match with a strong third-set performance, hitting .278 on their way to a 25-18 victory.
Abigail Freeman paced the Golden Bulls offensively with 12 kills and three service aces.
Daila Brown and
Mariah Dulan added five kills apiece, while Brown and Dulan each recorded two blocks.
Marianna Diaz orchestrated the JCSU offense with 15 assists and two aces, while
Naveah Baker contributed 12 assists.
The Golden Bulls also received strong defensive efforts from
Rylea Ross and
Morgan Slay, who each recorded nine digs.
D'Asia Cheatham added six digs.
As a team, JCSU finished with 34 kills, nine aces, 30 assists and three blocks. The Golden Bulls also committed just 18 attack errors while hitting .155 for the match.
Lincoln was led by Amira Billingsley, who finished with eight kills, while Charly Manley recorded 21 assists and nine digs.
The Golden Bulls returns to Brayboy Gymnasium on Thursday, Oct. 8, hosting Fayetteville State in CIAA action. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
