CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Damien Mazil accounted for five touchdowns and Johnson C. Smith's defense held Shaw to one score as the Golden Bulls rolled to a 49-6 CIAA victory on Saturday.
The Golden Bulls (5-1, 4-0) wasted little time taking control as quarterback
Damien Mazil connected with
Fabian Duncan on a 45-yard touchdown pass on the opening drive. Duncan added a two-yard rushing score later in the first quarter as JCSU built a 14-0 advantage.
Mazil continued to lead the offensive attack in the second quarter, throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to
Kamarro Edmonds and adding an eight-yard rushing touchdown to send JCSU into halftime with a commanding 28-0 lead.
The Golden Bulls kept the momentum rolling after the break. Mazil found
Reginald Daniel for a 57 yard touchdown strike before Shaw got on the board with a 23 yard touchdown run from Fabian Diggs. JCSU quickly answered as Mazil connected with
Brian Lane for a 13 yard touchdown reception to extend the lead to 42-6.
Backup quarterback
Parker McQuarrie capped the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 15-yard touchdown pass to
Christian Rutledge, sealing the 49-6 victory.
