Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team put together a dominant fourth quarter surge, but the comeback effort came up short in a 72–65 road loss to Shaw on Wednesday evening.
The Golden Bulls (7-14, 4-10) outscored the Bears 29–21 in the final period, shooting nearly 65 percent from the field in the quarter, but early offensive struggles proved too much to overcome.
JCSU shot 39.7% from the field trailed for most of the contest, with its last lead coming at the 2:00 mark of the first quarter 10-9. Shaw (8-12, 5-9) controlled the middle frames and used a strong night at the free throw line shooting 24 of 35 to maintain its advantage.
Salote Franklin delivering a 22 point, nine rebound performance for the Golden Bulls, and shot 9 of 14 from the field and added five offensive rebounds.
LeAsia Matthews led Shaw with 19 points.
