Mills Springs, N.C. The Johnson C. Smith University men's track and field team placed fifth with 55 points at the CIAA Indoor Championships, highlighted by multiple podium finishes in the hurdles, jumps and throws.
Virginia Union claimed the team title with 164 points, followed by Claflin (123) and Lincoln (Pa.) (73.5).
Jahvel Granville paced the Golden Bulls with a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 8.10 to score eight team points.
Amontae Wray added a third place finish in 8.24, giving Johnson C. Smith two podium spots in the event and a combined 14 points.
Jameir Legette earned a runner-up finish in the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters (6 feet, 6 inches) to score eight points.
In the triple jump,
Terrence McCutcheon placed second with a personal best 14.69 meters (48-2 1/2)
Jordae Wilson followed with a third-place finish at 14.63 meters (48-0).
Anthony Chatman added points in the shot put, finishing fifth with a personal best 14.52 meters (47-7 3/4).
Divine Gee turned in a strong all-around performance in the heptathlon. He placed third in the long jump at 6.45 meters (21-2) and fifth in the shot put at 9.18 meters (30-1 1/2). Gee also cleared 2.65 meters (8-8 1/4) in the pole vault.
