CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball couldn't overcome a rough first quarter, falling 76–67 to Livingstone College at Brayboy Gymnasium.
The Golden Bulls (7-12, 4-8) trailed 28–10 after the opening period.
Salote Franklin led JCSU with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while La'Niya Simes added 13 points and 10 boards.
JCSU made its strongest push in the fourth quarter, scoring 26 points and trimming the deficit. But Livingstone's 11‑for‑12 performance at the free throw line in the final period sealed the outcome.
The Golden Bulls won the rebounding battle 42–41 and dominated second chance points 20–12, but struggled from the field overall, shooting just 34.7%.
Livingstone's Nielle Reaves scored 18 points and Ny'Asia Green added 15 as the Blue Bears shot 46% from the field and hit eight 3‑pointers.
