CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Johnson C. Smith University dropped both games of a softball doubleheader to Johnson & Wales University of Charlotte on Wednesday, falling 10-0 in the opener and 15-7 in the afternoon.
JCSU (4-16) collected six hits in the first game but could not convert them into runs.
Aniylah Lane and
Skylar Bledsoe each had two hits for the Golden Bulls, while
Jahzira Hogan added a double.
Johnson & Wales (5-11) capitalized on defensive miscues, scoring two runs in the first inning and extending the lead throughout the game. Kaydence Hassell led the Wildcats with two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs, while Laila Strawn finished with three hits and four runs scored.
Despite the loss, the Golden Bulls found offensive momentum in Game 2, finishing with nine hits and scoring seven runs.
Johnson C. Smith rallied for five runs in the second inning after trailing 5-0.
Tiera Arnold delivered a two run single and Hogan followed with a two run double to spark the inning. The Golden Bulls added two more runs in the third, including a steal of home by
Aniylah Lane to cut the deficit to two.
Arnold finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Hogan had a hit and two RBIs. Lane and
Logan Masinky also scored for the Golden Bulls, and
Sydney Bledsoe reached base four times with three walks and a run scored.
Johnson & Wales answered the Golden Bulls' rally with nine runs over the third and fourth innings to regain control. The Wildcats finished with 22 hits in the game.
Masinky and
Jasmine Jackson each added doubles for Johnson C. Smith, while the Golden Bulls also drew seven walks in the contest.
