Men's track take first in JCSU Invitational

CHARLOTTE - Johnson C. Smith University men's track delivered a dominant all-around performance, highlighted by multiple NCAA Division II marks, event wins, and strong depth across sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps, and throws.

On the track, Nicholas Francis led the way with a standout double, winning the 100 meters in 10.42 and the 200 meters in 21.07, both NCAA DII marks. He set the tone for a deep sprint squad that saw Benjamin Patton (10.94) and Jahvel Granville (10.98) also score in the 100, while Patton added a third place finish in the 200 (21.73). Caleb Baxter was another key contributor, taking second in the 200 (21.51) before dominating the 400 meters with a 47.35 NCAA DII performance.

The hurdles crew was equally impressive. Jahvel Granville claimed the 110 hurdles title in 14.67, followed closely by Amontae Wray in second (14.70), while Kobe Mack added a third place finish. In the 400 hurdles, freshman Princewell Martin posted a breakthrough NCAA DII mark of 51.27 to win, with Wray finishing second and Tajer Basden adding points in seventh.

Middle distance efforts were led by Tyvion Williams, who placed second in the 800 meters (1:55.81), while the relays capped off the track dominance. The A team captured the 4x100 title in 40.55 (NCAA DII), and the 4x400 squad followed with another victory in 3:17.39.

In the field events, freshman Jameir Legette cleared 2.02m to win the high jump, while Terrence McCutcheon added a fourth place finish. In the pole vault, Ashaad Chatman and David-Saul Daniels went 1-2 with marks of 3.34m and 3.14m.

The jumps squad showed exceptional depth in the horizontal events. Legette (6.82m) and Kobe Mack (6.75m) placed second and third in the long jump, supported by multiple scorers. In the triple jump, Divine Gee led a 1-2-3 sweep with an NCAA DII mark of 14.80m, followed closely by McCutcheon (14.76m, also NCAA DII) and Jordae Wilson.

In the throws, Anthony Chatman was a standout, finishing second in the shot put (14.31m) and winning the discus with a throw of 43.79m. Jeremiah Brown added valuable points in both events, including a runner-up finish in the discus.
