Shawn Barrett came to Johnson C. Smith University staff in February 2019 as Head Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach. Shawn brings with him wealth of coaching knowledge and experience to this role. Before joining JCSU Shawn spent three years at UNCC (2015-2018) as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach where he worked with both football and baseball.
Prior to UNCC Shawn began his coaching career at his alma mater Wingate University where he spent six year as the Head strength and conditioning Coordinator (2009-2015). Shawn was a part of Wingate’s first SAC conference championship team in 2010. He coached all-Americans Perry Floyd, Chris Bowden, Nick Napolitano and Brandon Hathaway.
Barrett was a standout wide receiver at Wingate University (2003-2008) where he earned all-conference honors after his junior and senior seasons. Barrett was also selected to the university’s all decade team in 2010.
Shawn currently resided in Charlotte with his wife Jessica McCarton and their daughter Laure Grace.
