Oralia Washington

Oralia Washington is in her sixth year at Johnson C. Smith University as Sports Information Director in the University Communications and Marketing department.

Washington, was Sports Information Director at Livingstone College from 2015-2019. She was responsible for media coverage, game operations and maintaining statistical information for JCSU’s 15 sport teams and the athletics department.

Prior to Livingstone, Washington served as assistant sports information director at Alabama A&M University from 2010 to 2015. She worked at her alma mater, St. Paul’s College (Va.), on two occasions – as SID from 2001 to 2002 and as SID and public relations director from 2009 to 2010. Washington was assistant SID at N.C. Central University from 2007 to 2009 as the school transitioned to NCAA Division I.

As a highly respected SID in the CIAA, Washington serves as press room coordinator and the public address announcer for the CIAA Basketball Tournament and serves on the CIAA Basketball, Indoor Track Women's Falg Football Committee. Washington is currently a  member of the CIAA Management Council. She was appointed to her management council seat after being elected president of the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association (CIAA-SIDA) in 2022. She also currently serves on the D2SIDA Atlantic Region women’s basketball voting committee. 

In the summer 2020, Washington was selected to serve her first term as the vice-president of the CIAA SIDA. She was selected by the CIAA Commissioner to attend the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association workshop on governance in conjunction with NCAA Division II to prepare minority administrators for NCAA DII committee service in early June 2019. 

A 2000 graduate of St. Paul’s College (Va.), Washington was a two-sport student-athlete in basketball and softball. She also coached basketball, softball and volleyball at St. Paul’s from 1999 to 2001.

Washington is well-connected among SIDs and holds memberships in the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Black College Sports Information Directors Association (BCSIDA) and the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association (MOAA).

Washington, is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Order of the Eastern Star
