Shenika Worthy joins the Johnson C. Smith University women’s basketball coaching staff as the associate head coach. Worthy, along with head coach Stephen Joyner, Jr., start off a new regime of JCSU women’s basketball for the 2012-13 season. She is no stranger to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) after spending the last two season (2010-12) serving under Joyner, Jr. at Winston-Salem State University as the assistant women’s basketball coach.

Worthy brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience, both as a coach and a player. Prior to spending the last two seasons on the Lady Rams coaching staff, Worthy began her collegiate coaching career at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) as a graduate assistant for the Lady Eagles (2004-06). Worthy has also been abroad and gained international experience as a head coach for Western and Eastern European Junior Women’s Basketball Teams in Switzerland, Romania, Luxembourg, and Slovakia (2003-09).

Worthy has spent time as a high school assistant coach at Columbia High School in Decatur, Georgia. She also engaged in a venture as the owner and founder of Game Speed Amateur & Professional Player Development in Atlanta, GA.

Worthy has ties to the Women’s National Basketball Association’s (WNBA) Atlanta Dream franchise. She served as an account executive and team ambassador coordinator. Worthy established herself as the top season ticket seller and a leading revenue producer in the WNBA.

She began her collegiate playing career at Clayton State University and earned all-rookie team honors. Worthy transferred to NCCU and completed her collegiate career with All-CIAA and All-American honors. She pursued a professional career and played with the Women’s Pro-Am in Atlanta, the Birmingham Power of the National Women’s Basketball League (NWBL), as well as eight years playing in European leagues overseas.

Worthy has a proven coaching expertise in guard player development. While at WSSU, two student-athletes garnered CIAA all-conference and all-tournament honors playing out of the backcourt. As an essential member of the Lady Rams coaching staff, the team had two winning seasons with an overall record of 35-21.

Worthy holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Marketing concentration and a Master of Arts in Instructional Technology, both from North Carolina Central University. She achieved Cum Laude honors as an undergraduate and Magna Cum Laude honors as a graduate student. She was a member of the Phi Beta Lambda National Honor Society throughout.
