Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team earned a pair of victories against St. Paul's College (9-0, 9-0) over the weekend on the Coleman/Cuthbertson Tennis Courts. JCSU improves to 13-13 overall, 10-6 in the CIAA, and enter the 2011 CIAA Tennis Championship Tournament on a three-match winning streak.

Scheduling conflicts prohibited these two teams from facing each other at the cross-divisional round ups earlier this season. Johnson C. Smith worked in some fine tuning against the Lady Tigers. Though St. Paul's is a conference opponent, neither match counted towards the teams CIAA record.

The freshman duo of Keina Love (Wilson, NC) and Felicia Akande (Winston-Salem, NC) outplayed Tracy Turner and Zion Jarrett 8-0 at the number one doubles spot. Both doubles' combinations of number two pair sophomore Margaret Jones (Newport News, VA) and junior Rolanda Sue (Charlotte, NC) as well as number three sophomore Samantha Barnes (Hampton, VA) and senior Tyra Breaux (Baltimore, MD) swept their opponents (8-0).

Johnson C. Smith dominated both matches, not allowing a match point in singles or doubles for either.

Match play in the 2011 CIAA Tennis Championships is scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 21st at 8:00 a.m. on the tennis courts at Virginia State University. Last season, JCSU was eliminated in the semifinal round. Last year's CIAA Rookie of the Year Samantha Barnes and All-CIAA selection Tyra Breaux will attempt to take the Golden Bulls further.
