Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis teams blanked Elizabeth City State University 9-0 in CIAA action on Monday morning at the Coleman-Cuthbertson Tennis Courts. JCSU improves to 8-11 overall and 7-4 in the CIAA.
Freshmen duo Keina Love (Wilson, NC) and
Felicia Akande (Winston-Salem, NC) had a little trouble with Christina McLean and Tiffany Brown at the No. 1 double spot. Love and Akande eventually closed them out 9-7 for the first match point. JCSU swept doubles competition, including an 8-0 victory for junior
Camille Allen (Teaneck, NJ) and senior
Tyra Breaux (Baltimore, MD) in No. 3 doubles.
The Golden Bulls were just as successful in singles action. Sophomores
Samantha Barnes (Hampton, VA) and
Margaret Jones (Newport News, VA) won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches (6-0, 6-0) in flawless fashion, respectively. Junior
Rolanda Sue (Charlotte, NC) helped earn two match points; one at the No. 2 doubles position with partner Jones and the other in No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-3) against Valerie Edwards.
This is the third sweep for Johnson C. Smith this season.
JCSU returns to the court for the second Southern Divisional Roundup on April 9-10th in Raleigh, NC. Shaw University will host the second round-up with the first JCSU match scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9th against Winston-Salem State.
