Golden Bulls on a two-match winning streak

Results vs. Livingstone

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team defeated nearby rival Livingstone College in a CIAA Southern match on Tuesday afternoon at Freedom Park. JCSU improves to 9-12 overall, 9-4 in the CIAA, and 5-3 in the division. The Lady Blue Bears fall to 0-6 in the Southern and 2-11 overall and in conference.

Sophomore Rankin Anderson (Decatur, GA) and freshman Khadijha Battle (Atlanta, GA) won 8-0 in the number one doubles match against Corbin Bennett and Natalia Felix. Senior Samantha Barnes (Hampton, VA) and junior Keiana Love (Wilson, NC) also swept 8-0 at the number two doubles spot. Junior Felicia Akande (Winston-Salem, NC) and sophomore Nichelle Heard (Douglassville, GA) won the third double match by forfeit.

Anderson and Love dominated number one and two singles matches by a score of 6-0 in both sets. Akande topped Gereesa Henry in both sets (6-0, 6-1) in number three singles. Battle earned a singles victory at the number four spot over Shannon Davis (6-2, 6-0). Heard only gave up one match point in her victory in the fifth singles position (6-1, 6-0). Barnes won the sixth singles match by default.

The Golden Bulls will now prepare for a divisional roundup held April 11th against Winston-Salem State University. Match play will begin at 2:00 p.m. on the campus of WSSU in Winston-Salem, NC.
