JCSU avoid sweep with doubles win

Petersburg, VA – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team lost 5-1 to the No. 2 seed Winston-Salem State University in the first round of the CIAA Women's Tennis Tournament on the campus of Virginia State University on Thursday, April 18, 2013.

The duo of junior Felicia Akande (Winston-Salem, NC) and sophomore Nichelle Heard (Douglasville, GA) defeated Taylor Harris and Carmen Grady in number three doubles for the only JCSU match point. Akande and Heard won 8-2 in the set. The Lady Rams won number one and two doubles as well as the first three singles competitions to advance.

The Golden Bulls finished third in the Southern Division during the regular season and ended their season at 10-15 overall.
