JCSU women's tennis has won their last two matches heading into the CIAA cross divisional roundup
Fayetteville, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team shut out Fayetteville State University 9-0 in conference play on Monday, March 10th at Mazerick Park. JCSU improves to 2-7 overall and 2-0 in the CIAA; while the Lady Broncos move to 1-3 overall and in the conference.
In doubles action, the senior duo of
Keiana Love (Wilson, NC) and
Felicia Akande (Winston-Salem, NC) topped Samantha Ledbetter and Taylor Norris 8-5 in the first flight. Juniors
Rankin Anderson (Decatur, GA) and
Nichelle Heard (Douglasville, GA) held the combination of Laura Worriax and Selena Cox scoreless 8-0 in the number two position.
The number three pairing of sophomore
Khadijha Battle (Atlanta, GA) and freshman
Victoria Ogundipe (Jonesboro, GA) trumped Taheiya Foster and Farrah Richardson 8-1 to sweep doubles play.
Love and Anderson won the number one and two singles matches, respectively with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Battle earned victory in the number three spot; only allow a point in each set (6-1, 6-1). Akande and Ogundipe shut out their opponents in the fourth and sixth singles positions, respectively. Heard defeated Foster 6-2 in the first set and 6-1 in the second for a win in number five singles.
JCSU women's tennis is scheduled to compete in the CIAA Cross-divisional Roundup held March 15-16 in Richmond, VA. The Golden Bulls will face the hosting Virginia Union on March 15th at 9:00 a.m. and then Bowie State on March 16th at 9:00 a.m.
