Felicia Akande went 3-0 in No. 4 singles and 3-0 in No. 1 doubles during the CIAA Roundup hosted by Virginia Union
Richmond, VA – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team earned victories over Virginia Union University (7-2), Elizabeth City State University (9-0), and Bowie State University (9-0) during the CIAA Cross-Divisional Roundup hosted by Virginia Union on March 15-16. JCSU improves to 5-7 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
In doubles competition, the Golden Bulls swept Virginia Union. The number one duo of seniors
Felicia Akande (Winston-Salem, NC) and
Keiana Love (Wilson, NC) defeated Kiara Miller and Elizabeth Parson 8-1. The junior competition of
Rankin Anderson (Decatur, GA) and
Nichelle Heard (Douglasville, GA) topped Katrina Joe and Deja Shabazz by a score of 8-3. Freshman
Victoria Ogundipe (Jonesboro, GA) and sophomore
Khadijha Battle (Atlanta, GA) blanked Christionne Taylor and DeJamine Bryson 8-0 to complete the doubles flight.
With the exception of number one and number three singles, JCSU dominated the singles' flights. Love fell in two sets (7-5, 6-0) in the first singles match. Battle won the second set of the third singles match, but, ultimately lost (6-3, 2-6, 10-6). Anderson, Akande, Heard, and Ogundipe were victorious in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles' matches.
The Golden Bulls totally swept singles and doubles competition in their matches against Elizabeth City State and Bowie State.
JCSU will be looking to extend their winning streak to five in their next match. The Golden Bulls will face divisional rival Shaw University on Wednesday, March 26th at 2:00 p.m. in Raleigh, NC.
