JCSU Women's Basketball Drops Two Games at Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic
St. Petersburg, Fla. (Nov. 25, 2017) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's team competed in the Eckerd College Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 24-25, falling twice to host Eckerd and Florida Southern.
On Friday's matchup with the host Tritons, a fast start and a big third quarter from Eckerd pushed them to an 89-53 win over the Golden Bulls.
Eckerd outscored JCSU 24-10 in the first quarter and limited the Golden Bulls to just five points in the third quarter. JCSU shot 42.1% from the field and got 12 points from senior guard
Asha Jordan (Monroe, N.C.) and 11 points from junior
JaKeyah McNeill (Fayetteville, N.C.). Eckerd also controlled the glass, outrebounding JCSU 36-18 in the win.
On Saturday afternoon, Florida Southern downed JCSU 75-52. The Mocs coerced JCSU into 22 turnovers, scoring 25 points off JCSU miscues. The Golden Bulls only managed a 34.7% outing from the field on a 17-of-49 effort while Florida Southern shot 46.4% from the field.
Jordan was the only Golden Bull in double-figure, scoring 18 points on a 7-of-11 effort from the floor. She also was 3-of-5 from long range. Sophomore
Jamia Johnson (Durham, N.C.) led JCSU on the boards, finishing with eight rebounds.
The losses, JCSU's first of the season, drops the Golden Bulls to 4-2 on the season. They will return to the floor on Tuesday, Nov. 28 with a home matchup with USC Aiken.
