JCSU Women's Basketball Pushes Past USC Aiken, 61-55
Charlotte, N.C. (Nov. 28, 2017) – After being down by four points at halftime, the Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball used a big third quarter and was able to push past visiting USC Aiken, 61-55 in a nonconference game on Tuesday night at Brayboy Gym.
Trailing 27-23 at halftime, the Golden Bulls (5-2) used a key 7-0 run to start the third quarter to take the 30-27 lead. Â The run was capped by a
JaKeyah McNeill (Fayetteville, N.C.) three-pointer at the 8:31 mark and gave JCSU the lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way.
After the Pacers closed the gap to a single point (32-31) at the 6:22 mark, JCSU would go on another run, this time a 10-4 run that pushed the Golden Bulls lead to 43-35.
In the fourth quarter, JCSU would extend the lead to double-digits (54-43) with 7:01 to play after an
Autumn West (Durham, N.C.) jumper. The Pacers would get no closer that six points the rest of the way, as the Golden Bulls shook off a two-game skid to earn the 61-55 win.
The Golden Bulls limited USC Aiken to a 32.8% (20-of-61) outing from the field while and forced 22 turnovers on the night. JCSU also had three players score in double figures, led byÂ
Kendall Adams (Opelika, Ala.), who secured a double-double with 14 points and 18 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Malia Rivers (Pageland, S.C.) had 11 points while freshmanÂ
La'Zarea Bowens (Knightdale, N.C.) had 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Golden Bulls will hit the floor once more before exams begin by hosting Paine College on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3:00 p.m. in Brayboy Gym.
