JCSU Volleyball Remains Undefeated WIth 3-0 Win Over St. Augustine's

JCSU Volleyball Cruises Past St. Augustines, 3-0

Charlotte, N.C. (Sept. 21, 2017) –
The Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team kept their perfect record intact, defeating visiting St. Augustine's in the CIAA Southern Division opener for both teams on Thursday night at Brayboy Gym.

JCSU (5-0, 4-0 CIAA) was led by freshman Karina Pressoir (Orlando, Fla.), as she delivered eight kills and four blocks, two solo, on the night.  On the match, she hit for a .467 percentage.  Teammate Makayla Adams (Michigan City, Ind.) also had a good match, knocking down six kills while Anteesha Smoots (San Antonio, Tex.) had eight.  Defensively, Taylor Hendrickson (Kennewick, Wash.) had 12 digs while Georgina Diaz (Lincolnton, N.C.) had 11.  Senior Azha McNeil (Fayetteville, N.C.) had 13 assists for JCSU.

After falling down 7-3 in the first set, the Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team regrouped behind four first set aces to go up 17-16 and never relinquished the lead, going on a 8-4 run to close out the set, 25-20.

In set two, JCSU again fell down, this time by a 5-1 score, but regained the lead after tying the match at 8-8. The Golden Bulls would stretch the lead to 12-11 , then going on a 8-1 run to go ahead 20-12.  SAU cut the lead to 23-16, but a Falcon service error and ball handling error ended the set at 25-16.

In set three, the two teams battled to a 8-8 tie, but JCSU again went on a run, this time a 5-0 spurt to claim the 13-8 lead  JCSU would go on to lead 21-14 and would eventually close out the match, winning set three 25-16

The Golden Bulls will return to the court for two straight matches, traveling to Johnson & Wales on Sept. 22  at 7:00 p.m. and hosting Morris on Sept. 23 at 1:00 p.m.
