JCSU Women Has No Trouble With St. Augustine's in 75-58 Win
Charlotte, N.C. (Jan. 20, 2018) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team had three players score in double figures and had a big third quarter in a 75-58 win over St. Augustine's University in a CIAA Southern Division game on Saturday at Brayboy Gym.
JCSU outscored the visiting Falcons 17-8 in the first quarter, but the visiting Falcons chipped away at the JCSU lead in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 26-25 with 53 seconds before halftime. JCSU got a jumper from

Kendall Adams (Opelika, Ala.) to close the half, taking a 30-27 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, JCSU went on a 13-0 run over the first 3:37 of the quarter to establish a lead they would not relinquish. The JCSU lead grew to as many as 19 points at 53-34 by the end of the third.
The Golden Bulls would enjoy their largest lead of the game following a Rivers basket at 6:35 of the fourth quarter that made it 61-38 in the favor of the Gold and Blue. SAU would trim it to as few as 14 points (69-55) but would get no closer, with JCSU taking the 75-58 win.
Rivers led the way with 19 points and five rebounds while Adams finished with 16 points.Â
Jasmine Carter (Dacula, Ga.) had 12 points to round out the double-figure scorers for the Golden Bulls. Sophomore forward
Jamia Johnson (Durham, N.C.) had a team-best 11 rebounds in the win, which improved JCSU to 11-6 overall, 3-2 in CIAA play ad 1-1 in Southern Division play. St. Augustine's got 22 points from Kaaliya Williams and 12 from Quiera Gilmore in the loss.
JCSU will continue Southern Division play on Wednesday, Jan. 24, hosting the rival Livingstone Blue Bears in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff from Brayboy Gym.
