CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After ending Shaw University's 15-match winning streak just over a week ago, JCSU lost its second straight match to a Southern Division opponent to end regular season action for the Golden Bulls.
Fayetteville State rolled into town riding a 9-match conference winning streak of their own and handed JCSU a 3-1 defeat (25-19, 15-25,24-26 & 22-25); the second straight loss for the Golden Bulls.
Despite valiant efforts by
Gorana Bogdanovic and
Anteesha Smoots with 10 kills each,
Georgina Diaz's 17 digs and
Joi Haywood's 24 assists, FSU'sTeeya McLean had a monster night collecting 16 kills and 6 blocks. The Broncos collected 39 kills to JCSU's 31 in the final three sets to take command of the contest.
After winning the first set 25-19, JCSU had a woeful .000 attack percentage in the second set to set the stage for FSU to take the sets 2, 3 & 4 and claim the victory.
The loss, combined with Winston-Salem State's defeat of Livingstone (3-1) dropped the Golden Bulls into fourth place in the Southern Division, setting up an opening round match with Northern Division leader Virginia State, Tuesday, November 6 in Ettrick, Va.
JCSU's record falls to 16-9 (13-5 CIAA) while Fayetteville State improves to 13-11 (13-4 CIAA).
Final pairings for this year's CIAA Volleyball Championship will be announced this weekend.
