JCSU Women Takes 82-65 Win at St. Augustine's

Raleigh, N.C. (Feb. 10, 2018) – Senior Kendall Adams led four players in double-figures as Johnson C. Smith University took an 82-65 win over St. Augustine's University in a CIAA Southern Division women's basketball game at Emery Gym on Saturday.

Adams, from Opelika, Ala., had 20 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Bulls.  She was 6-of-9 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the win.  Sophomore teammate Maiya Green (San Antonio, Tex.) added 12 points while Xena Dove (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Malia Rivers (Pageland, S.C.) had 11 points each.

JCSU shot 46% (23-of-50) from the field while limiting the Falcons to just 38.1% (24-of-63).  JCSU also outrebounded the Falcons (39-30) and forced 26 turnovers, converting those into 15 points.

JCSU took control early, building a 12-point lead (18-6) in the first quarter and never looked back. The lead was expanded to as many as 16 points in the second quarter (33-17).

In the third quarter, JCSU pushed the lead to 60-40 and would later enjoy their largest lead of the game, 24 points, when senior Monique Hall (Melbourne, Fla.) hit a jumper to make it 66-42.  SAU would get no closer than 14 points the rest of the was as JCSU took the 82-65 win.

The Golden Bulls improve to 15-8 overall, 7-5 in CIAA play and 4-3 in the Southern Division while SAU drops to 6-16 overall, 3-10 in league play and 2-5 in Southern Division play.

JCSU will hit the road this upcoming Monday, traveling to Northern Division opponent Chowan. Tipoff from the Helms Center in Murfreesboro, N.C. is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
