In a game that was tied eight times with nine lead changes, Nenad Milenkovic came off the bench to score the game-winning layup at 29 seconds as JCSU's men edged Claflin University, 64-63, inside Brayboy Gymnasiium Monday night.
In addition to his game-winning layup, the Junior from Ivanjica Serbia scored JCSU's final five points including a crucial three-point basketball with two minutes to go.
Nenad, nicknamed the Serbian Assassin for his dagger-like three-point shooting, was a major contributor in helping the Golden Bulls overcome their second half scoring struggles. He scored all nine of his points in the second half providing significant support to mainstays Cayse Minor (26 pts) and Roddric Ross (18 pts).
Both Minor and Ross grabbed seven rebounds in the game.
JCSU battled Claflin inside with the Panthers out rebounding the Golden Bulls 43-33 but JCSU was able to score 18 points off turnovers to overcome the rebounding shortage.
The Golden Bulls pick up their first Southern Division win, improving to 1-3. JCSU is 5-12 over all and 2-8 in conference play.
In their first season as a member of the CIAA, Claflin falls to 7-12 overall, 6-8 in the CIAA and 3-3 in the division.
The men return to action Wednesday, January 30 when they host Winston-Salem State inside Brayboy Gymnasium. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
