Golden Bulls cruised to a 90-59 win over Kentucky State

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Three Golden Bulls score 16 points as Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball scored their first victory of the season, defeated Kentucky State 90-59, in the Wendy's/Claude Saunders Tip-Off Classic inside of Brayboy Gym on Friday night. 
 
Xavier Jones connected 7-of-15 from the field, while grabbing five rebounds, and one assists. Cayse Minor had 16 points, three assists and two rebounds while Fredrick Callaway scored 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Bulls first win.
 
JCSU (1-1) shot 60-percent from the field in the first half and 59-percent in the game. The Golden Bulls also recorded a season-high for field goals attempted (61) and made (36).
 
The Golden Bulls raced out to a 11-2 lead to start the game led by four points from Jones. Smith held onto its lead the entire half including their largest lead of the game at 39-17 point thanks to a 11-2 run with 2:34 on the game clock.
 
With a double-digit lead in the second frame, Smith comfortably held onto their lead throughout the stanza, including a 31-point advantage twice but the Breds' did not fend off easy as KSU produced a spurt to pull within a mere 27 points. The Golden Bulls then used the clock  to secure the win.
 
Damarri Moore led KSU (1-1) in scoring with nine points and four rebounds, following Grant Goode with nine points as well.


Smith will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 16 for the 2019 Wendy's/Claude Saunders hosted by the Golden Bulls in Brayboy Gymnasium with a contest versus Limestone on Saturday at 5 p.m.
