JCSU Set to Host Tip-Off Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team in conjunction with the Wendy's/Claude Saunders will host the 2019-20 Tipoff Classic on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16 in historic Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium featuring Kentucky State University, Limestone College and Livingstone College.

The Classic schedule will start with Limestone taking on the Blue Bears of Livingstone College at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by the Thorobreds and the Golden Bulls at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Blue Bears and Thorobreds will go head-to-head at 3 p.m. and then JCSU will square off with the Saints at 5 p.m. to conclude the Classic.

The Limestone College men's basketball team has been voted to finish seventh in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll, as chosen by the league's head coaches. In addition, a duo of redshirt-junior guards for Limestone, Joseph Battle and Rudy Bibb-Boyd have been named to the Conference Carolinas Players to watch list. 
 
Kentucky State University men's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's West Division in a vote by the conference's coaches and sports information directors.

The Thorobreds return just one starter, Felix Wilson from last season. He started all 25 games he played in, and was second on the team with 60 assists. Wilson finished with 5.2 points per game. Senior Grant Goode is the top returning scorer with 7.4 points per game in 19.7 minutes, while shooting 42.2 percent from the field.

Livingstone College Roger Ray, a native Raleigh, NC, is the CIAA's leading returning scorer at 21.3 points per game, finishing second in the conference and within the top 30 nationally in that category last season. A two-time All-CIAA selection and a BoxToRow All-American last season, Ray is also the conference's leading returning assist man at 6.2 per game, also good for second in the CIAA and 12th in Division II in 2018-19. The 5-9 senior shot 39.4 percent from three, making 2.6 per game, and shot 84 percent from the free throw line, finishing top three in the CIAA in all three categories.
