CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Johnson C. Smith University football stumbled out the gate Saturday afternoon down 14-0 against Saint Augustine's, but a 26-3 scoring margin lifted the Golden Bulls to a 26 - 17 victory over the Falcons of Saint Augustine's University at the George Williams Athletic Complex. The victory comes as the first division win for the Golden Bulls this season.

Smith improves to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and 1-4 in the division, while SAU falls 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the CIAA and 2-2 in the division.
The Golden Bulls led at halftime with a 17-14 lead after
Antonio Wallace threw a 70 yard pass to
Braxton Gambrell for the second touchdown in the second quarter.Â

In the third, the Falcons were forced to punt, when the Golden Bulls blocked it into the end zone for the safety, leading 19-14, with 6:48 in the third quarter.
SAU cuts into the Golden Bulls 19-17 lead on a 28 yard field goal, with 8:25 in the fourth quarter.Â
With 6:45 in the fourth quarter, deep in their end zone the Falcons were forced to punt, and the Golden Bulls blocked and recovered the punt in the end zone for the touchdown, to extend JCSU 26-17 lead and win.
Smith will close out the 2019 season on Saturday, Nov. 9 when they travel to Salisbury, N.C. to take on rival Livingstone College Blue Bears in the Commemorative Classic.
