WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO FAYETTEVILLE STATE, 71-58

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –  Senior forward Emani Clough scored 13 points off the bench, but the Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team fell to Fayetteville State University, 71-58, Saturday afternoon inside Brayboy Gym.
 
The Golden Bulls (4-3) trailed by three (34-31) at halftime and to start the second half, FSU (2-6) outscored Smith 18-11 in the third quarter to lead by as many as 13-points in that frame. The Golden Bulls managed to claw their way back and gash at the deficit to pull within single digits, including a 19-16 scoring margin for Smith but the visiting Broncos held on for the second in the final seconds.
 
Clough tallied 13 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 shooting from 3-point distance. Aubrianna Bonner added 10 points, including 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line while senior DeNajah Porter chipped in 10 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Clough also finished with nine rebounds.
 
For the contest, Smith shot just 33 percent from the floor and hit 5-of-17 from behind the arc. At the charity stripe, the Golden Bulls shot 52 percent shooting (9-of-17).
 
FSU hit 40 percent from the field led by  Kaatisha Hyman who finished with 22 points and six assists.  Shantel Bennett recorded 19 points, seven rebounds.
