JCSU squanders 20-point lead in overtime loss to Fayetteville State in CIAA Game of the Week

The Johnson C. Smith men's basketball is still looking to play an entire 40 minutes of basketball.

In the CIAA televised Game of the Week against Fayetteville State on Saturday, the Golden Bulls jumped out to a 20-point lead before facing a Bronco comeback that forced the game into overtime.

In the extra period, FSU continued its comeback, outscoring JCSU 18-12 to take a 94-88 win.

Despite a 38-28 advantage in points in the paint, the Golden Bulls could not counter a 45 point performance by FSU's Denzell Hosch. In 38 minutes played, Hosch tied the previous school record that he set last season with ten three-pointers made in a game.

Hosch scored 9 of FSU's 18 points in overtime to lead the Broncos to victory.

JCSU was led by Cayse Minor with 23 points. Roddric Ross had 22 points and 10 rebounds. Justice Goodloe finished with a season high 15 points.

FSU improves to 5-16 overall, 4-10 in the CIAA and 3-3 in the division.

The Golden Bulls fall to 7-14, 4-10 and 2-3.

JCSU completes its brief road trip when they travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to meet Claflin University Monday evening in Tullis Arena. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
