VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – After qualifying as one of the top eight bowling teams in the conference, the Golden Bull bowling team has been eliminated after day 1 of the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Bowling Championship at the AMF Lynnhaven Lanes.
ROUND 1
The opening round of the championship began with a matchup between no. 1 Fayetteville State Broncos (FSU) verses. no. 8 St. Augustine's Falcons (SAU), no. 3 Virginia State Trojans (VSU) verses no. 6 Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (JCSU), no. 4 Virginia Union Panthers (VUU) verses no. 5 Shaw Bears (SU), and no. 2 Bowie State Bulldogs (BSU) verses no. 7 Livingstone Blue Bears (LC)in a double-elimination format.
JCSU fell into the elimination bracket following a 4-1 loss to the Trojans of Virginia State.
ROUND 2
A tough matchup between JCSU and Livingstone ruled in favor of the Golden Bulls, 4-3. Despite the Blue Bears securing the first 2 matches, JCSU picked up momentum to take a 3-2 lead. LC gained an additional victory, tying the match 3-3, but JCSU took the final win to advance to round 3, sending LC home.
Matching up in the final round of the day were FSU verses SAU, BSU verses VUU and a rematch between VSU and JCSU.
ROUND 3
The Virginia State defeated JCSU for a second time in a 4-1 matchup. The Trojans secured the first 3 matches, but the Golden Bulls battled back to take the 4th match. VSU rolled back into the game to take the overall win and advance to the final day of the championship thus eliminating the Golden bulls from the competition.
After an intense first day of the 2019 CIAA Bowling Championship, Fayetteville State, Bowie State, Virginia Union and Virginia State advance to day 2 of the championship. Competition will resume, Sunday, March 24 at AMF Lynnhaven Lanes. Teams will hit the lanes at 10:45a.m. to warmup and will battle round for round beginning at 11:20a.m. in hopes of claiming the 2019 CIAA Bowling Championship Title.
