JCSU Women Takes 66-47 Road Win at WSSU

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Junior Le'Zarea Bowens led three players in double-figures as Johnson C. Smith University took an 66-47 win over Winston-Salem State University in a CIAA Southern Division women's basketball game at C.E. Gaines on Thursday.

Bowens, had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Bulls.  She was 5-of-14 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line in the win.  Maiya Green and Aaliyah Bell added 10 points  had points each.

JCSU shot 31% (20-of-63) from the field while limiting the Rams to just 26.1% (16-of-61).  JCSU also outrebounded the Rams (52-45) and forced 22 turnovers, converting those into 18 points.

JCSU took control early, building a seven-point lead (12-5) in the first quarter and never looked back. The lead was expanded to as many as 16 points in the second quarter.

The Golden Bulls improve to 11-9 overall, 7-4 in CIAA play and 4-3 in the Southern Division while WSSU drops to 10-11 overall, 5-6 in league play and 2-5 in Southern Division play.

JCSU will host Elizabeth City State on Saturday, Feb. 1, in Brayboy Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
